Northstar Digital Literacy Program: Information Sessions at Herkimer Working Solutions

Northstar Digital Literacy is a program offered through the NYS Department of Labor to provide New Yorkers with access to quality instruction to thrive in the digital age.

Herkimer Working Solutions Career Center is holding information sessions on how to access and use the Northstar Digital Literacy program.

Our goal is to inform local individuals about the program, assist them with setting up an account, and teach them how to use the platform while guiding them through the lessons and making individuals aware of the services available at the career center.

Information sessions will be held at Herkimer Working Solutions (320 N. Prospect St. Herkimer) at 2pm every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Walk-ins are welcome.

Sessions will last approximately 1 hour. Attendees will get set up with a Northstar account and will be given an overview of the program, along with completion options. Walk-ins welcome *Please bring photo ID for career center registration

FREE Virtual Job Fair Tuesday, January 30, 2024

All businesses and job seekers in the following counties are invited to register: Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties.

The job fair will take place Tuesday, January 30th, from 11am to 1pm.

There will also be staff available from our training grant programs to talk to job seekers about how our free grant programs can help job seekers get started in a satisfying and good paying career.

>Comprehensive reporting features for both employers and job seekers

Get 2024 off to a great start with free trainings, career exploration, job fairs, and more. Here are some upcoming events to get you started:

• 1/4/24 -Free Northstar Computer Literacy training at 2pm on Thursday January 4th at Herkimer Working Solutions, 320 N. Prospect Street, Herkimer. Learn basic computer skills, internet basics, career search skills, Microsoft Word and Excel and more. For more information call 315-867-1400. 
• 1/8/24-Carpenter’s Local #277 is hiring both apprentice and journeyman carpenters. With lots of big construction projects coming up in the local area, this is a great opportunity to earn good money while you learn skills that will last a lifetime. Don’t miss the Apprenticeship Information Session Monday, January 8,2024 at 6 pm in the first- floor conference room at the State Office Building, 207 Genesee Street. Please be on time and use the Genesee Street entrance. 
• 1/17/24-Utica Working Solutions is hosting a Mini Job Fair. From 11 am to 1 pm, you can meet with representatives from Casa Imports, Wilcor, Wolfspeed, Kelberman Center, Sturges Manufacturing, and Carpenters’ Local 277. There will be opportunities for warehouse workers, office staff, direct care providers, construction, and production workers just to name a few. We hope to see you then! 
• 1/19/24-Herkimer Working Solutions Mini Job Fair. From 1-3 pm at Herkimer Working Solutions, 320 North Prospect Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. Stay tuned for more information.
• 1/19/24-Free Introduction to Welding Training at MVCC. To enroll and for more information, visit mvcc. edu/fast or contact Terésa Fava-Schram at tfavaschram@mvcc.edu. 315-334-7778. 
• 1/25/24-Madison County Working Solutions Career Center will be holding a Job Fair from 10 am to 12 pm at 133 N. Court Street, Wampsville, NY 13163. Meet with representatives from Madison County businesses to find your next job or career role. Representatives from Community Memorial Hospital, CCI Companies, Carpenter’s Local 277, Colgate University, Oneida Nation Enterprises, HP Hood, The Arc of Madison/ Cortland Counties, Oneida Health, Madison County Personnel, YMCA Tri-Valley and Morrisville State College will be there. We hope you will too!
