The Mohawk Valley Economic Development District is seeking applicants for a full-time position as Regional Contractor Navigator. The successful applicant will carry out tasks related to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Regional Clean Energy Hubs Program.
Duties as a Regional Contractor Navigator will primarily include conducting outreach and delivering technical assistance services and guidance to contractors and businesses interested in pursuing clean energy planning and projects specific to the related NYSERDA program.
The duties will include:
- Serve as point person to recruit new contractors to the NYSERDA approved contractor list
- Support these contractors through NYSERDA contractor approval process
- Educate contractors on additional available Utility Level Incentives
- Work to connect existing contractors with other contractors to complete portions of a project outside their scope of work (ex. Heat Pump Installer and Insulation Installer)
- Connect contractors with new and existing educational and certification opportunities
- Encourage the use of environmentally friendly products and technologies (ex. cASHPs)
- Encourage the development/certification of MWBE and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses as both contractors and suppliers
- Connect small businesses, MWBEs and SDVOBs with business development resources to establish or grow their work in the clean energy sector including through the New York Small Business Development Centers administered by the State University of New York.
- Recruit additional clean energy firms and organizations, especially MWBE and SDVOB, to become NYSERDA participating contractors.
- Oversee regional clean energy workforce development opportunities
- Responsible for connecting with regional institutions, preparing curriculum, and facilitating the growth of the Clean Energy workforce in the Mohawk Valley
- Serve as a liaison/referral point pertaining to the availability of wrap-around community services such as for housing rehab (ex. roof repair, lead stabilization, weatherization, etc.)
- Connecting residents seeking training, contractors and small businesses interested in supporting fellowships and apprenticeships with NYSERDA workforce development opportunities.
- Helping enable career pathways for priority populations and disadvantaged communities, to build their basic/foundational and technical skills to meet employer needs in the clean energy workforce and lead to job placement. This may include but is not limited to:
- o Partnerships to gain an understanding of the barriers to employment readiness in the clean energy workforce and helping inform training programs based on this need.
- o Partnerships with training and wrap-around service providers to reduce barriers for and reflect the range of employment readiness needs of individuals with employment barriers.
- Develop partnerships with organizations that can help grow capacity of small contractors located in disadvantaged communities by supporting mentoring, training, access to capital and other supports.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, environmental science or related field
- A minimum of 3-5 years in sustainability energy planning
- Knowledgeable about clean energy, business development, and NYSERDA programs
Communication Skills:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills include public speaking
- Ability to interpret instructional documents as they relate to NYSERDA programs
Mathematical Skills:
- Basic math functions such as add, subtract, divide, and multiply
Other Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Self-motivated, excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Highly organized, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
Work Hours:
- Position will include 10%-20% regional travel and evening meetings
- Full-time position: 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Occasional evening work may be required
Salary:
- $50,000 - $60,000, depending on experience
- Company paid health, vision and dental, retirement, and holidays
