Under supervision of the Shop Foreman, performs a variety of maintenance tasks including preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, inspection of Company owned buses and their operating systems.
TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Examines the vehicle and discusses with supervisor or other mechanics the nature and extent of the damage or malfunction. Plans work procedure, using charts, technical manuals and experience. Raises vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units or parts attached to underside of vehicle. Adjusts brakes and replaces lights and instruments. Replaces and adjusts headlights, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Drains fluids including oil, transmission, differential, radiator, etc. into appropriate receptacles using hand tools to remove plugs, caps, etc. Cleans units as required. Installs replacement parts such as oil, fuel and air filters, belts, hoses, caps, windshield wipers, bulbs and lenses, and other routine maintenance inspection items as needed or scheduled.
Refills radiator using proper mixture of water and antifreeze. Checks and refills all other fluid levels according to recommended fluid types and levels. Inspects and tests, hydraulic system components. Lubes vehicle using lube gun. Replaces grease fittings as needed. Performs multi-point safety checks on vehicle such as tire tread depth and wear patterns. Accurately and timely completes check lists and other related paperwork. Will be required to perform other related duties such as vehicle brake inspections and NYS DOT inspections.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Minimum High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum one year experience in the field of Automotive, Bus, or Truck repair preferred.
Skill at: Inspecting, diagnosing, testing, and repairing buses and their systems. Skill at following both verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge of: Use and care of hand tools, equipment, and machinery; and safe work practices.
Licenses: Valid New York driver's license with a good driving record for test driving motor coaches on company property.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o Must be able to obtain access of any component on the vehicle with the vehicle in any position.
o Must be able to use body members and/or tools or work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials onto or into vehicle to accomplish repair tasks. Also must be able to exercise considerable judgment in the selection and adjustment of appropriate tools, objects or materials to accomplish these tasks.
o Must be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (occurring 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
o Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagrammatic, or schedule form.
o Must be able to understand and utilize practical applications of fractions, percentages, decimals, ratios and proportions.
o Must be able to read and comprehend safety rules, instructions in the use of shop tools and equipment, repair manuals, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
o Must be able inspect various components of the vehicle.
o Must be able to communicate in clear fluent English with drivers, other mechanics, parts counterpersons, vendors, co-workers and other persons.
