Community Planner Opportunity at MVEDD

The Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD), is looking to add a Community Planner to their expanding team in Upstate NY.

Job Overview:
In this role, you will work on a variety of planning projects across the Mohawk Valley Region. We work directly with municipalities to help expand their capacity for comprehensive planning, placemaking, clean energy and climate resiliency, revitalization projects, and assessments.You’ll have the opportunity to work on Federal and New York State grants in a variety of capacities.


The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years planning or economic and community development experience. A Master's degree in Community, Regional or Urban Planning or a related field from an accredited university is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.


Job Responsibilities:
- Developing and updating comprehensive plans
- Community outreach and engagement, including survey development and analysis
- Assisting with grant writing, administration, and management
- Developing relationships with municipal leaders and community stakeholders
- Developing partnerships with other community organizations, small businesses, and state and federal agencies
- Assisting with projects related to broadband, food security, climate resiliency, brownfield redevelopment, and others economic development plans dependent on experience and interest


Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (required) in Community, Regional, or Urban Planning or related field
- Two years in planning or economic and community development is preferred. A Master’s Degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience.
- Experience with comprehensive planning, zoning, and the local land use approval process
- Must be accomplished in the management of multiple projects with excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and/or Google Meet
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel required
- Experience with survey creation and analysis
- Experience using ESRI ArcGIS software or equivalent
- Experience developing user-friendly, creative reports and presentations


This is a 2 year position, with an extension dependent on funding availability. Occasional travel and evening meetings may be required. The salary for the position is $50,000 and includes a competitive benefits package::
