The Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) Grant Program Announces a Free Women-Focused Virtual Job Fair!

Utica, NY – The Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program is hosting a women-focused virtual job fair on November 3, 2021, from 11:00AM – 1:00PM. The goal of the job fair is to help women gain employment in nontraditional occupations, which is defined by the U.S. Department of Labor as any industry in which females make up 25% or less of the workforce.

The WANTO program, administered by the Workforce Development Board, Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties, Inc., focuses on helping women gain employment in nontraditional occupations primarily in the informational technology, advanced manufacturing, trades, agriculture, and transportation sectors.

“Nontraditional careers for women have a great deal of opportunity for women to grow and achieve self-sustainability,” says Stephanie Heiland, WANTO Project Director. “By providing women with training and helping to connect them to employers, WANTO hopes to create a more inclusive and equitable workforce.”

WANTO serves the following seventeen counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Tioga, and Tompkins. Job seekers and employers throughout the entire 17-county region are invited to register.

The job fair is free to job seekers and employers on a user-friendly platform.

The WDB/HMO utilizes the Premier Virtual Job Fair platform, a U.S.-based, Veteran-owned job fair platform that provides an easy-to-use job fair simulation, enabling real-time interaction between recruiters and candidates, including video chat.
Exhibitors are provided a customizable exhibitor booth equipped with high-resolution avatars, and special buttons to share video content, web-links, job vacancies, company overviews, the ability to hold instant interviews and more. The recently rolled out 2.0 platform allows for detailed note taking, post-job fair reporting and more.
During the event job seekers are able to view each company’s job openings and company profiles, submit their resumes to jobs they are interested in and chat with one-on-one with recruiters. This event also offers a 24-hour pre-event preview access so that job seekers can log into the system before the event to view company profiles and job openings.
Once you are registered there are training videos within the Premier Virtual platform.

Strategies on how to successfully apply for Positions at DFAS

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service Center is recruiting to fill positions for Accounting Technicians and Contact Representatives. These entry-level federal jobs support America’s Heroes by resolving issues related to their travel pay and financial information.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in customer care, Finance or Accounting who want to serve those who defend America.

The Mohawk Valley Brownfield Development Summit, created by a unique collaboration of the six Mohawk Valley Counties and the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, will take place October 6th and 7th, 2021 in Johnstown, NY. The Summit will provide developers a dynamic in-person opportunity to learn, network and invest in New York’s Mohawk Valley Brownfield redevelopment. According to Stephen Smith, Executive Director of the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, “The Summit will tie in the Mohawk Valley’s economic leaders, the brownfield sites ready for restoration, and America’s brownfield developers looking to acquire sites for future economic growth.”

Keynote speaker Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer’s will spotlight why investment in the Mohawk Valley has never looked brighter. With a $2 billion investment forecast, businesses are looking to invest. Federal and state investment in semiconductors and the innovation economy are closely aligned with investments in the Marcy Nanocenter, Cree/Wolfspeed, Danfoss Silicon Power, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and the Innovare Advancement Center underway.
